Located adjacent to Mang'u High School and Thika Power Plant, Zetech University had the perfect spot for their new campus, the Technology Park.
The challenge
When we started the project, we were aware of a looming deadline. Students were already enrolled with a firm opening date. We employed careful project scheduling and resource management to achieve successful delivery on schedule.
Our design response
Creating community through layout
We employed a courtyard design strategy that creates an enclosed, protected learning environment. This layout fosters a sense of community while providing students with quiet, contemplative spaces away from external distractions. The central courtyard is the heart of campus life, connecting all facilities while offering landscaped areas for reflection and informal study.
Comprehensive facilities for modern education
The campus houses spacious lecture halls, STEM and ICT laboratories, a Nursing Skills Lab, and a Law students Moot Court. Advanced research facilities include the Institute for Ageing Studies (IAS) and the Africa Centre for Data Analytics and Modelling (ACDAM). A 1000-seat state-of-the-art library serves as the academic hub, while workshops and conference halls support diverse learning modes.
Beyond academics
Students benefit from restaurants, an amphitheatre for cultural and academic events, modern sports amenities, and ultra-modern accommodation facilities. Ample secure parking ensures convenience for the entire campus community.
Sustainable operations
We integrated comprehensive energy and resource management systems to reduce operational costs through:
- Motion-sensor lighting throughout the facility
- Sensor-activated water taps to minimize waste
- Water recycling systems that irrigate the central courtyard landscaping
These systems lower running costs while demonstrating environmental responsibility to students and staff.
The result
The completed campus serves as a model of contemporary educational architecture. In the end, we created an institution that will serve generations of students while contributing to Mang'u's continued growth and transformation.
