Description
What began as a straightforward research facility project for JOOUST evolved into a transformative infrastructure development that would reshape an entire area.
Originally planned for Miyadhe campus, comprehensive site assessments led to relocating the project to Bondo campus—a decision that would prove both challenging and ultimately rewarding.
The Bondo site presented significant obstacles: no access to fresh water, grid electricity, or communication networks. We viewed these challenges as opportunities to create sustainable, self-sufficient solutions.
Sustainable energy
We established reliable water sources through borehole drilling and developed purification systems to treat Lake Victoria's saline water. This dual approach ensured both construction needs and long-term facility operations would have dependable, clean water access.
Solar power systems provide the primary energy source, complemented by architectural design that maximizes natural ventilation in classrooms and common areas. This approach reduces ongoing operational costs while creating comfortable learning environments.
Infrastructure
We coordinated with KPLC to install new transformer infrastructure and partnered with Safaricom to establish telecommunications connectivity. These efforts extended far beyond the university's immediate needs.
By the project's completion, the area will have gained comprehensive infrastructure that can attract additional development opportunities.
