Naisula school – Kajiado

Description

The Naisula School board envisioned a boarding school in Kajiado, but the arid climate presented significant challenges that required innovative solutions before any traditional construction could begin.

Phase one: Mastering the environment
We began by "taming the land." Our water strategy centered on comprehensive rainwater collection using a combination of dams and PVC rain bags. These flexible storage systems hold substantially more water than traditional tanks while requiring minimal space and offering significant cost advantages.

Next, we "forested" the site with drought-resistant trees, creating a microclimate that would fundamentally change the area's character. The collected rainwater provided essential irrigation to establish this green buffer against the harsh Kajiado environment.

Phase two: Building the school
With the environmental foundation established, we constructed the complete boarding facility: classrooms, dormitories, dining halls, recreational fields, and laundry facilities. Solar panels supplement grid electricity, primarily heating water for comfortable student showers.

Students can now study, play, and rest in comfort, completely protected from the region's challenging weather. Instead of dust and scorching winds, they enjoy cool breezes in a green, peaceful environment that supports focused learning and healthy living.

Measurable impact
Our integrated approach delivers impressive results: 46% water savings and Ksh 450,000 in annual operational cost reductions—proving that sustainable design creates both environmental and financial benefits
